A Simple and Modern Fall Wedding

I love when couples want to really personalize a cake. No matter the details or method, the fact that they want something that is truly "them" is really wonderful. I think it makes looking back at the cake in wedding photos that much more enjoyable. Because, even when the taste of the cake has long since been forgotten, the images and memories of the creation are still there.

This particular couple had a fall-themed wedding and wanted a topsy-turvy cake (but still elegant with clean lines). They wanted they beloved dog featured as well as themselves - even down to the colour of their "Chucks" (Chuck Taylor Converse shoes). I had so much fun making them come to life in sugar. The leaves were created with gum paste and then individually airbrushed to create a unique shade and design for each leaf.

I hope that when the couple see this cake in the pages of their wedding album that they will smile and remember all those little details, the humour, and the style that they brought to their wedding cake design.

This cake was made with Vanilla Sugar cake with Blueberry and Lemon Buttercream filling and Chocolate Bourbon cake with Raspberry Buttercream.

An Ode to Tim Burton

I love Tim Burton movies. As a teenager I dreamt of being Winona Ryder dancing in the flakes of ice as Johnny Depp carved his frozen sculpture. I wanted to be Lydia from "Beetlejuice" wearing all black while watching the world from a distance. I was an angtsy teenager, can you blame me?

So when I got a call about making a cake for a sweet 16 party based on Tim Burton movies I could hardly contain my excitement! This particular birthday girl wanted a "topsy-turvy"-style cake with a tier devoted to Edward Scissorhands (wee!!), one for Coraline, and one for The Nightmare Before Christmas.

Here's my creation based on the work of Mr. Burton's awesome films:
